When you're looking in from the outside, you feel as if you're peeking into someone's living room. Behind the large front window, there are a couple of big armchairs, a table and a couch. All vintage. It's only when you look a bit further that you see the bar and realise it's a café.

Comfy and casual

The atmosphere inside is comfy and casual, just the way I like it. It's one of my favourite places in the city to sit back and enjoy drinks and conversation. You can sink into an armchair or couch and relax with a glass of one of the special liqueurs served there. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the vintage gear and artworks such as the photo-collage by the renowned Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken.

Music

On Thursday nights, local singer/songwriters perform for the public. Music lovers will want to check it out, because there’s always a great vibe. In addition to the musical evenings, Cafe laBru also regularly holds retro and vintage markets. Watch the Facebook page for the events. Opening hours Monday - Thursday 2 PM to 1 AM Friday - Saturday 2 PM to 2 AM Sunday 2 PM to 1 AM

I work in communications and have kept an on-line fashion journal for years. I'll show you around Rotterdam, my home town, a magical place open on the world. Sparkling restaurants, deliciously hidden between sea and sky. My little extra: globetrotter and multi-lingual
