Behind this name is one of the best neo-canteens in Brussels. Open since September 2012, it's been hugely successful thanks to its fresh market products and daily specials. The place is always full for Sunday brunch. There is also a fine foods shop where I've found very high-quality dry goods.

For Sunday cocooning

Located near Place Brugmann, Ici has won over the people from the neighbourhood and elsewhere. If you can't get a reservation for Sunday brunch, you'll either have to be patient or get there early. There is a rush for the benches. I chose the "small" menu (€15). There wasn't anything small about it: freshly squeezed orange juice, a hot drink, a fried egg, croissants, chocolate croissants, several kinds of bread, jams, an organic chocolate spread, a selection of cheeses and hams, pumpkin cake, and more.

Hand-made down to the decoration

A quiet atmosphere, soft music, delicious food, all of the ingredients come together to make this a favourite. Ici's success is also due to the care with which it's decorated. Everything was set up by Saskia and Marine, the managers. And some of the dishes are hand-made by Saskia. If you aren't in the mood for brunch, come for breakfast or lunch another day. The speciality soups and hot dishes are perfect for winter.


Open Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm and Sunday from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm
