The Villa Empain is an imposing Art deco structure that was built in 1931 by the Swiss architect Michel Polak. Now converted into a centre for art and dialogue between the cultures of the East and the West, it aims to offer a space for artistic interchange and exploration.

An architectural gem

This temple to Art deco, covering 3500 m², has preserved its original swimming pool in blue mosaic, the office of baron Empain and a complex system of skylights providing natural light. The extraordinary experience of the villa is enhanced by the finishing both interior and exterior, in luxurious materials such as bronze, rare woods and marble.

Egyptian winter

Until 10 February 2013, the Villa Empain will host the exhibition ‘Édouard et Cléopâtre’, a thorough retrospective of the most sumptuous treasures of Egypt. The opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and the rise of orientalism – as well as the vogue for large universal exhibitions – embodied this fascination for the valley of the Nile and its countless influences. Diehard Egyptologists – and I can personally think of one – will be over the moon.

My fashion job takes me around the world throughout the year. I love flea markets and hunting for antiques year round, meeting up with friends at art show openings, going to fashion shows and being first to discover a new restaurant.
My little extra: introducing people to the "arty" and underground side of Brussels!"
