I like to know where things come from, so when I signed up for a basket of organic produce on offer in a local shop, I decided to follow the thread back to the farm which produces it. A short trip later and I was in the heart of the countryside, far from the madding crowd, at La Ferme Nos Pilifs.

A human adventure

The farm, which is located in the small town of Neder-Over-Heembeek and was created in 1984, is a business initiative with a social dimension, employing 120 disabled workers on an idyllic 5 ha site. When you arrive, it's hard to know where to begin.

Farm, nursery garden, grocer’s and tavern

If you're accompanied by children, there is only one option: head straight to the farm to see all the animals. The walk along the edge of a small woodland is truly delightful. But walking gives you an appetite, so for a moment you contemplate stopping at the tavern for refreshment, after a detour to the organic bakery selling melt-in-the-mouth croissants.
There is also a nursery garden with fruit trees, fruit & veg, plants and flowers grown using strictly natural techniques. The organic grocer's completes the picture. An ideal spot for a rustic and gastronomic day out with the family.

Gabriel, 32 TENNIS PRO

I teach tennis in the city and also write about culture for a number of publications. I love to travel and meet people. My city? It's an improv concert in a down-to-earth bar, an exhibition built on a work site, a play performed in the heart of the old city... My little extra: combining sport and culture!
