Although Antwerp's fashion museum dates back to 1998, it has been enhanced in recent years by the addition of 7,000 items of clothing and contemporary accessories. The "Momu Now" exhibition is the opportunity to admire the most beautiful of these items, in particular original silhouettes signed by the Belgian designer Raf Simons for Christian Dior and Jil Sander.
Homage to Belgian fashion
It is not every day that there is the opportunity to see assembled in one place as many clothes proudly sporting the design colours "made in Belgium". It has almost been forgotten, but Belgium has delivered some very famous names in the international fashion world! Simply think of Dries van Noten, Haider Ackermann, Walter Van Beirendonck, Véronique Branquinho, AF Vandevorst or Ann Demeulemeester. The exhibition pays them homage through a number of their designs (including some offered by great names on the fashion scene, such as Balenciaga and Helmut Lang), evidence of a dedicated expertise and a pronounced taste for something that bit different, but also a perpetual subject for discussion. For their part, items from youthful Belgian talents (Christian Wijnants and Peter Pilotto in particular) show that the next generation is already waiting in the wings!
Raf Simons or minimalist fashion
Through targeted purchases, gifts and loans, the MoMu has added patiently to its collection (which now numbers some 25,000 items, extending from historic costumes to contemporary designs). As the Belgian designer Raf Simons has been in the limelight for these last 5 years, a special place has been set aside for him. The exhibition presents clothing lines that he has designed for various target groups (women, men, haute couture and off the peg) and in this way makes us share in the virtuosity of this exceptional designer, training architect, while lifting a corner of the veil covering the artistic codes which underlie his work.
I'm a globetrotter and curious about everything. I like to move and party. I love the culture and vibe of this city, its artistic effervescence and its young, cosmopolitan population never short on projects or ideas. My little extra: hyperactive student!
