The Sarphatipark in the Pijp district in the centre of Amsterdam covers quite a large area at 4.5 hectares. The park is named after a doctor, urban designer and philanthropist called Samuel Sarphati.

An exciting career

Samuel Sarphati was unfortunately not able to see the work he had dreamed of. Park construction started 19 years after his death under the guidance of the engineer Van Niftrik who drew the park plan in pure English style. The park was renamed Bolland Park during the Second World War under German occupation. It only got its original name back after the Liberation. The park was completely reworked in 2004 and given its current configuration which is perfect for green walks.

A big park in the middle of everything

The Sarphatipark is an excellent alternative for people like me who don't necessarily have the time to go far out of the city to relax in nature. Thanks to its central location, it's easily accessible all year round. You can walk there in the snow during short winter days and have barbecues and picnics when the weather's nice.

I love Amsterdam's open spirit. It's easy to meet people and have rich, interesting conversations. The heart of the city is bubbling over with cultural initiatives, secret restaurants and nature routes that relax you in no time. I want to share it all with you!
