Every Friday evening at 8:30, when the weather's good, a group of roller skate fanatics gets together at the entrance to Vondelpark for a twenty kilometre skate through the city streets. Join them!

Fun and safe

Since it first started in 1997, following the example of several other European cities, the Friday Night Skate (FNS) has become a real institution. Framed by "blockers", who wear fluorescent yellow jackets and stop vehicle traffic, and a team of professional first aid workers, the skaters take on the asphalt (and sometimes the cobblestones) over a course full of nice surprises. Each week, the organisers find another route that mixes main streets, pretty bridges and obscure streets. The only condition for joining in is to have decent skating skills because the group has to be homogeneous in that respect.

Dare to dress up for Christmas

I'm not really a sports person and I've never tried roller skates. I'm happy just to watch the skaters go by when I'm out on a Friday evening. Some are clearly at ease and more competitive (they have the right clothes and all of the accessories!). Others come with friends or family. Those ones are not as sure of themselves, but you can tell they're having a good time. The show is unusual, especially in December when the entire group dresses up as Santa Claus for the now-famous Santa Skate. Don't worry if you don't have any skates: FNS will direct you to a good place to rent them. The skate is only on when the weather is good. Check the website before going out. The skate is free.
Laurence, 46 a cool mum

I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
