Whether or not your purse stretches to luxury shoes with vertiginous heels and an architectural instep, do not fail to visit the Shoebaloo shop in P.C. Hooftstraat, the hippest shopping street in Amsterdam. Its futuristic interior alone is worth a visit.

A shop worthy of “Star Trek”

You remember the Star Trek TV series? Shoebaloo has aspects of the Starship Enterprise. My children love the changing colours of the floor, walls and ceiling. If they had their way, we would have to call in there every time we were in the area. Fortunately the staff are used to customers who do not buy anything, but instead visit their premises as tourists! With all this technology on show, one might almost be forgiven for forgetting to have a look at the shoes, which would be a shame because the collection is breathtaking.

Cutting edge footwear from €250!

Shoebaloo built its reputation on haute couture shoes. So one can admire design creations in ovoid niches in the guise of display shelving, of the kind one would only see in magazines and on the red carpets: Thierry Mugler court shoes à la Lady Gaga, Jimmy Choo Roman sandals, Lanvin python boots or embroidered Versace mules. Naturally the prices are to match. If, like me, all this just leaves you dreaming, I have some good news for you! Shoebaloo has created its own label and so there is no need to break the bank. At €250 for a pair of stacked ankle boots, how can one not succumb? Open Mondays 12 pm to 6 pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays 10 am to 6 pm and Sundays 1 pm to 6 pm. Evening shopping on Thursdays until 9 pm.

Laurence, 46 a cool mum

I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
