In the warm and friendly Oud-West district, Fijnhout offers simple and homey dishes served in a no-frills atmosphere. It’s a great place for young mothers like me, who are always a bit worried that their little ones might accidentally break something.
Just like home, without the washing up
After an afternoon of shopping in Amsterdam with the kids, a break is more than welcome! The activity on the canal always fascinates the children and as we watch the boats… time flies! And what if we had dinner out? At Fijnhout, it’s just like home, without the washing up.
Family favourites and always something for the kids
The brasserie is set up in a former saw mill (hence the name Fijnhout, which means fine wood). Fijnhout offers a range of tasty dishes. There is everything from vegetarian quiche to big Black Angus burgers, as well as more unusual fare, like today’s special: squid. And while there isn’t a children's menu, in the kitchen they’re always ready to work something out. How about pasta, a chicken breast or some chips? Kids are never a problem. The prices are reasonable too: from €13 to €18 for a main and €6 for a dessert.
A functional décor
The interior is entirely decorated in pale wood, with small tables and black chairs. It is easy to make yourself at home. There is a lot of room and a veranda, but no miscellaneous objects that could be knocked over. There are no stairs either. You can enjoy your meal and let the little ones play for a while. Just remember to bring some small toys with you.
I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
