Machines à dessiner

From 25 October 2015 to 26 March 2017, "Le Musée des arts et métiers will be hosting "Machines à dessiner", an exceptional exhibition born of a collaboration with François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters, the authors of "Cités obscures" and "Revoir Paris". It’s an invitation to discover the unique world of the two authors where the objects and documents selected from the store rooms of the Musée des arts et métiers are cogs in the dizzying engineering of dreams.

The Musée des Arts et Métiers

Abbot Grégoire founded the Conservatoire des arts et métiers in 1794. The goals of the institution were to unite technical knowledge to "perfect national industry" and bring together collections to serve as models, references and motivation for inventors, researchers and the curious from every walk of life. The warehouse of useful inventions became a museum in 1802. The Musée des arts et métiers has been entirely renovated since 2000. It has nearly 2,500 objects on display, reflecting a wide range of aspects of the history of technology. They include the Lumière brothers' camera, Pascal's arithmetic machine and Clément Ader's aeroplane n° 3.
