City of contrasts
The city of Charlemagne offers a cathedral, shops and a collection of gingerbreads.
Aachen is a pleasant city all year long, but celebrates Christmas like nowhere else with its famous markets, starting in November.
If you were to remember only one thing about this place: it is the city of Charlemagne. The city, where it took 20 years to build a cathedral, his cathedral. It was therefore also where he was buried.
This religious monument also contains many treasures: an exhibition of over 600 m² gathering approximately one hundred works of art and famous relics, exhibited once every 7 years.
With its galleries and shopping centres, Aachen is also a great place for shopping. In addition, it will appeal to lovers of sweets: gingerbread, the local speciality, comes in a thousand and one forms and not only around Christmas!
