This little cellar has been delighting customers since 1937 and remains one of the best places to pick up excellent grands crus as well as great everyday wines.

The vineyards of Paris

On the Butte Montmartre and the hills of Charonne, each year, a few grapevine stocks are cultivated, harvested, and a few days later, at huge gatherings, the year’s modest production is drunk. These time-honoured fiestas hardly need Facebook. But meanwhile, there’s nothing left for export.

Place de la Madeleine, for gourmets

To buy wine, there’s nothing like the advice of well respected professionals, who are privy to a reassuringly rich tradition. They will point you towards solid choices. Safely nestled at the bottom of your suitcase or in a nice wooden crate, the bottles will travel feely, preferably by Thalys to avoid being shaken. Afterwards, you should allow them to ‘rest’ for a few days to rid themselves of the ‘fatigue’ from the trip, before sharing (with moderation) the fruits of your shopping expedition.

Wine, and more wine

Au verger de la Madeleine, over the years, has built up an incomparable stock of great wines and rare spirits. You will find domaines that have been renowned for centuries, legendary cuvées and exceptional vintages as well as a selection of proprietary wines from the vineyards of France. With a bit of luck, you may have the chance to take part in one of the regular tastings. Have one for the trip…
Steve, 49 ENTREPRENEUR

Comfortable in working-class neighbourhoods and the tonier areas of Paris, I never get tired of rediscovering this timeless city. The Sex Pistols set the pace when I was younger. New technologies fill my working days now. My little extra: discovering fine eating spots around the capital for romantic dinners!
