When an iconic Parisian landmark is totally renovated and transformed into a temple of new technologies the result is something anachronistic but much acclaimed by the curious and cosmopolitan clientele. On the programme: videos, electronic music and multimedia creations.

An eclectic programme

The primary mission of this new cultural facility is to raise awareness of digital art forms and to provoke thought surrounding works of art and experiences which are by definition contemporary. It is not easy to imagine how works which by their nature are intangible and looking to be legitimised could be presented in a museum. At the ‘Gaité Lyrique’ workshops, exhibitions, performances, encounters, screenings, and concerts multiply for your viewing pleasure. In just a few months it has become an ultra friendly and trendy place to go.

The splendours of the renovation

It is worth the detour just to visit the building. The “Gaité Lyrique” theatre, which was presenting lively shows before the French Revolution, has been magnificently renovated by Manuell Gautrand. The building is divided into multiple interlinked exhibition spaces which come together to form a teeming hive of humanity. Conviviality has not been forgotten either with a bar placed in a grand and beautifully modernised setting. The bar also provides several tasty culinary surprises such as a hamburger in cuttlefish ink concocted by a Michelin-starred chef.
Welcome to the world of the Matrix!

The exhibition space is open from 2 pm to 8 pm Tuesday to Saturday and from 2 pm to 6 pm on Sunday.

Steve, 49 ENTREPRENEUR

Comfortable in working-class neighbourhoods and the tonier areas of Paris, I never get tired of rediscovering this timeless city. The Sex Pistols set the pace when I was younger. New technologies fill my working days now. My little extra: discovering fine eating spots around the capital for romantic dinners!
