A new youth hostel opened recently near the Gare du Nord (the Thalys station) at the heart of a Parisian eco-district. This inexpensive hotel is nicely decorated and has a restaurant with a view on a garden. It provides exceptional value for money.

A new-generation youth hostel

There's good news for those who still have bad memories of youth hostels (shared toilets on the landing, showers covered in hair, bunk beds and crowding): Pajol is only a youth hostel in name. It looks like a hotel both inside and out. Located in the 18th arrondissement, it has 103 rooms (1 to 4 beds), a bar with music, lounges, show and meeting rooms, a restaurant with a view on a garden, a kitchen and a laundromat.

100% environmentally friendly

The designer of this first eco-sustainable youth hostel is a specialist in environmentally-friendly architecture. Françoise-Hélène Jourda completely renovated the 1926 SNCF hall. This THPE building (very high energy performance) has 3,400 m² of photovoltaic panels, 150 m² of thermal solar panels, a heat pump, a waste water heat recovery system and mechanical ventilation. It doesn't need to be heated when in use. Rain is collected to water the covered garden and 9,000 m² of green space.

Starting at €29.50 per night, breakfast included + membership required

Brigitte, 39 MOTHER

Mother, bohemian and Parisian, I love Paris' cosmopolitan side and warmth. Exhibitions, walks, outings with the children...I'll take you on a discovery of the most welcoming places in Paris. My little extra: with my love of food as my compass, I always set course for the best lemon tarts in the city.
