It’s the temple of Vintage in Cologne. A magical place owned by the un-miss-able queen of the realm, Katta, where you can find great bargains that give you a great figure.

Queen KattaKatta!

When you go into KattaKatta 2nd Hand, you’re immediately struck by the small groups of women of all ages busily chattering around a large central table, addressing the seated and invisible queen of these parts: Katta. This shop, much favoured by the inhabitants of Cologne is hers and she reigns over it: mistress of the realm. You can’t miss her, her voice lays down the law and fixes the prices, which people negotiate for pleasure (and folklore).

Two shops in Cologne

Originally from the slightly less fashionable district of Sülz, Katta has two shops: One at the heart of the Altstadt (the old town), the other in Sülz, on the other side of the Rhine. She always insists that we should take the time to visit the other shop, because it’s totally different from the ‘big’ one as she refers to it. I might give you the address for the other one in another article, but for now let’s concentrate on the main shop.

Treasure chest

You could spend hours here and maybe even buy everything. Whether you’re looking for fancy dress or for THE outfit which will make the difference at the next fashionable event, everything you need is here. You really do have to look through everything because the racks and shelves are full of treasures. Everyone talks here too, so you can also have fun hearing the town’s gossip. I love finding things I would never pay full price for. One final word of advice: make sure you have visited Cologne before entering this temple of vintage clothing. Last time I popped in, I was there for three and a half hours!

Laetitia, 43 LAID BACK

The Cologne area provides my daughters and I with real quality of life. I like conviviality, healthy things, crafts and every kind of creativity. Together, we'll explore the side of Cologne that promotes the art of living. My little extra: the art of living.
