To all bread lovers, I heartily recommend the traditional Zimmermann bakery, located at the heart of Cologne. Whether you prefer dark or light, the vast selection in this fine establishment means you’re sure to find something to suit all tastes.

Body and soul

Every day you can sample the delights of more than 50 types of bread and pastries, as well as kosher products. On Saturdays in particular, customers come from far and near to queue up at this authentic bakery. As early as 1875, great-great-great-grandfather, Caspar Zimmermann, began to jot down his exceptional recipes, and now the fifth generation are keeping up the good work.

Deluxe Schwarzbrot

My personal recommendation is the “Schwarze Zimmermann”, a traditional German black bread that is prepared using a carefully guarded family recipe. It goes without saying that no preservatives or syrup have been added. No surprise, then, that the Zimmermann bread has not gone unnoticed by food experts, whose pulse is set racing by the combination of the local dark bread and the finest international produce from delicatessens.

Small & dark – a classic!

What would you say to some black bread, scallops and marinated mushrooms, for example? If you’re looking for ideas on how to use this small, dark bread, I suggest you ask the staff, who are as welcoming as they are skilled. You can even ask them to post their famous products directly to your door! Check out the website of this family business: you won’t regret it.

I've always loved Cologne. The city is industrial and romantic at the same time. I love my city for its galleries, classical concerts and elegant restaurants and its traditional and very trendy bars! My little extra: I love words, the arts and literature!
