This is what happens when a pastry lover takes a trip to Big Ben, rock and tea room country. Back in Cologne, she busies herself importing the cupcake tradition to become the queen of tasty goodies!

A passion for small servings

When compared to traditional German cakes like Apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce or a nice, multi-layer slice of Black Forest cake, Anglo-Saxon cupcakes seem quite diminutive. They're too small, too puny and too impish in the opinion of their German cousins. That small size is exactly what appealed to Kirsten. The mini-cake is a light pleasure that can be savoured alone (being too small to share) without feeling (too) guilty.

Cupcake changes

With its combination of "cake" and "topping", the cupcake is open to innumerable taste and decorative variations since colour, flashy whenever possible, is an integral part of the concept. While Royal Cupcakes has its repertory, the result of many experiments tested on willing family members, the recipes and icing on the little cakes are constantly renewed in line with changing moods and seasons. There are butter, fromage blanc, green tea, fruit and even lavender toppings (in the case of a cupcake called Carla B.) on vanilla, chocolate and caramel cakes. No, that isn't Big Ben you hear... Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm Closed Sunday and public holidays
Coralie, 31 JOURNALIST BY DAY

I'm a translator and editor for several publications and I love the hidden side of the city, its secret gardens, its discrete gourmet restaurants and its new, high-design spots. Outings with my friends end late at night. My little extra: a dynamic, fun and really trendy Cologne!
