It's easy to get away from Cologne for a few hours. It's as easy as going to Shaka Zulu. Dive into a world of South African street food, drink cocktails with names you've never heard before and admire the ingenuity of an interior created with 100% salvaged materials. This place is really different!

Behind the striped storefront.

The striped storefront sets the tone. Nothing is left to chance at Shaka Zulu, especially the interior design. The super trendy interior mixes black and white, art and salvaged materials, tradition and modernity. The objects on display are largely the result of creative recycling and are both humorous and aesthetically appealing. The setting provides a cure for the blues by successfully combining style and conviviality.

The "I'll try everything" menu, please!

While the wine (South African, of course) and cocktail selection takes several pages, the food menu is rather brief, which is really practical for those of us who can't make up their mind! There are a dozen "street food tapas" made with vegetables, meat and fish that can be combined depending on the option selected. The "communal meal" is perfect for the curious. It's an introduction to seven specialities, two sides (rice and corn pap) and a dessert. For those who fear getting bored, no worries. A menu completes the palette with new culinary creations every week.

Coralie, 31 JOURNALIST BY DAY

I'm a translator and editor for several publications and I love the hidden side of the city, its secret gardens, its discrete gourmet restaurants and its new, high-design spots. Outings with my friends end late at night. My little extra: a dynamic, fun and really trendy Cologne!
