The CINEMATEK is a showcase for the Cinémathèque royale de Belgique, one of the richest in the world. Welcome to a temple devoted to cinematography!

In the name of cinema

The new CINEMATEK opened in February 2009, after two years of spectacular construction works. It is the visible face of the treasures owned by the Cinémathèque royale, which currently has 145,000 copies of films corresponding to 70,000 titles. With the cinema, the past is revealed to us in a fascinating new light.

Intimate occasions

Each year, the CINEMATEK receives approximately 100,000 visitors. In the two ultramodern auditoriums (seating respectively 117 and 29), it is not unusual to hear many different foreign languages being spoken. Five to seven daily screenings brighten the days of those who love cinema. Those with impaired sight and/or hearing are also not forgotten. I have to confess a slight weakness for the screenings of silent films accompanied by musicians, who improvise according to the images before them. Impressive!

Open 7 days a week, all year, depending on the screening programme.

Sophie, 31 FASHION ADDICT

I work as a fashion consultant, tear through the papers every morning, race off to concerts whenever I can and claim ""belgitude"" as a guarantee of original quality! My little extra: new shops, trendy concept-stores, organic restaurants and artists' workshops.
