Due to work on the high-speed line in The Netherlands, trains will not stop at the Schiphol station.

The Schiphol station can only be reached by local trains departing from Rotterdam. To reach Paris, Brussels or Antwerp, you must purchase a ticket from Rotterdam. Print then your travel confirmation to travel free between Rotterdam and Schiphol. This will be your ticket.

Barcelona & Paris already have it. Brussels too. Since June 2011 Antwerp has it also. I’m talking about the fantastic way to rent cheap but excellent bikes.

A funny way to discover the city

The official colors of Antwerp are white & red. So it wasn’t hard to choose the colors for these bikes in the first place. Since the launch of the Antwerp wheels everybody wants one. From the beginning it was a big succes. Over 10.000 people have a subscription for a year and number is still growing. You can rent one for a day, a week, a month or a year. Just for a day you pay only 3,00 euros and 7,00 euros for a week. Cheap, right ? But there is something you should know to avoid a giant bill...

Don’t pay too much !

A daypass costs 3,00 euro, the first 30 min are free. As soon as you get over that half an hour, you get charged for it. 0,50 euro the first 30 min extra, 1,00 euro for 1-2 houres or 5 euro from 2-4 houres extra. The trick is to always get the bike the first half an hour and put it back at one of the eighty-five Velo stations. Wait for ten minutes and you can get another 30 minutes for free. This you can repeat as much as you want to. Nice, isn’t it?

The only way to pay is with creditcard. So no cash allowed if you want to rent it. You can have a look at the website and make your order. If you rather go to the Velo-Office in the Central Station of Antwerp, that’s possible too. Just keep your creditcard close to you!

Antwerp has no secrets for me: designer shops, fashion design and custom-tailoring workshops, pastry shops you can't afford to miss, small, quaint hotels off the main tourist routes, cultural book shops and wine bars... You'll love to come back. Promise! My little extra: fashion!
