You can’t really talk about Antwerp without thinking about diamonds, as the two have enjoyed centuries of history together.

A little history

Antwerp has been associated with diamonds for five hundred years. This tradition has been successfully maintained by the city since the fifteenth century and explains its position as the world’s top city when it comes to selling and manufacturing diamonds. To enable us to learn a little more about this legendary stone, the museum tells us about its history. From the size of the rough diamond to its transformation into magnificent gems, a visit there enables you to follow all the stages of its journey through pictures, sounds and lighting.

Bling Bling

Your visit continues with a show of some magnificent jewels dating from the sixteenth century to the present day. There are some fantastic colours, shapes and sizes among them. The area I really liked was called "bling bling", where items owned by rappers in the US were on show, and which had been bought for huge sums of money. The rooms in the museum are fairly dark and only the stones are highlighted with suitable lighting. Marilyn Monroe was right when she said “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!”.

The museum is open every day except Wednesday and entrance costs 6 Euros.

Marie-France, 32 Public relations manager

Born in Africa, I've lived between Europe, the United States and my homeland. A real mix of cultures! I'm always connected to social networks and on the lookout for great fashion, lifestyle, music and outing deals. I work in Antwerp as a public relations manager. I'm also a presenter for a TV music channel. My little extra: I like to get out and meet people.
