The American Book Center
+ 31 (0) 206255537
Situated on Spui square in Amsterdam, The American Book Center has been in existence for nearly 40 years. You can find rare editions of English language publications there, as well as a wall of international magazines.
Novels, art books and tourist guides are spread over many floors. Famous authors often come here for readings or signings of their latest novels. It has photographic works that are otherwise out of print, as well as a selection of specialist dailies and magazines.
At the weekend just cross over to the other side of the square to the book market, an ideal place to hunt for old book titles or something original. I can stop at the Café Luxembourg and then start reading straight away.
Do not miss this appealing bronze statue, representing a cheeky young street urchin. It is a pure symbol of defiance, in the image of a progressive city and society.
Open 10 am to 8 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and 10 am to 9 pm on Thursdays and 11 am to 6.30 pm on Sundays.
I love Amsterdam's open spirit. It's easy to meet people and have rich, interesting conversations. The heart of the city is bubbling over with cultural initiatives, secret restaurants and nature routes that relax you in no time. I want to share it all with you!
