Off the tourist circuit - although just a few steps from Leidseplein - Sawadee Ka is one of the best Thai restaurants in Amsterdam. While it only has fifteen tables, there is no shortage of good surprises on the food side.
The friendly, smiling welcome will put you in a good mood. You can choose from eight different, mostly chicken-based, spicy appetisers to start. The spicy soups are also a good choice in the winter. I like to try the pork, shrimp and octopus dishes as well as the traditional noodles and fried rice. The portions are big and a main course for two will be more than enough.
The house curries come on little candle heaters and are delicious. The rice is served in pretty wrought silver bowls which provide a touch of charm to the experience. You can relax while trying the carefully prepared dishes. I've loved the place since the first time I ate there.
I love Amsterdam's open spirit. It's easy to meet people and have rich, interesting conversations. The heart of the city is bubbling over with cultural initiatives, secret restaurants and nature routes that relax you in no time. I want to share it all with you!
