At the salon at number 45 of the Van Baerlestraat, the manicurists/pedicurists do not have any formal training, yet they will leave your skin soft and smooth in just twenty minutes.
Luxury and refinement, relaxation guaranteed
The “personnel” in charge of removing calluses and dead skin are in fact fish, who readily feed on them. I decided to test the concept and consult Dr. Fish! The soft lighting and luxurious furniture create a classy atmosphere. Yvonne leads me directly upstairs, where I take off my shoes and roll up my trousers. In the next room there are two rows of armchairs, facing each other, bathed in blue light.
I take a seat. The chairs are equipped, at the arm rests and near the floor, with individual tanks containing around a hundred tiny fish. Yvonne rinses my hands and feet with water (soap is too harsh) and then I'm ready to dive in! Instantly dozens of fish gather round to feed. Some only nibble for a second, while others greedily hang on to my fingers and toes. It’s a funny feeling at first. It tickles, but you get used to it.
A gentle transition, back to reality
Twenty minutes later the treatment is complete. “Wow!” I can assure you it really works. My skin is incredibly soft. Even my best beauty cream never produced results like this. After the treatment, I am invited to rest on a sofa with soft cushions, where I enjoy a non-alcoholic drink and some chocolates. Now that is what I call a gentle return to reality!
I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
