If you want to visit Amsterdam without breaking the bank and you like visiting unusual locations, the Hotel Qbic in the World Trade Center (WTC) building provides just what you need for your stay.

Disconcerting

Don’t expect to be met by a porter in his livery! At the Hotel Qbic, the reception area has been replaced by a lounge, where you check in yourself at a terminal that looks like a parking meter. Having got your keys, take the lift and get ready to enter a new world, with a maze of low-lit and pleasantly-scented corridors leading to rooms that are all almost identical, some of which don’t have windows.

Cubi for close friends

In each room there sits a large, white cube (the Cubi), within which is a comfortable bed made by Swedish manufacturer Hästens and a mini-bathroom (with shower) designed by French designer Philippe Starck, which are only separated by a screen with a built-in television. A shelf and two chairs are the only other items in this open structure. The whole thing is bathed in a halo of green, blue or violet light. It is irreverent and minimalist. And broadband internet is free! What more could you ask for?
The hotel is located around 20 minutes by metro from the city centre and is just one train stop from Schiphol-Amsterdam airport (Amsterdam-Zuid station).
Rooms from €69, breakfast not included (€12 per person).
Laurence, 46 a cool mum

I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
