Going out bowling in the evening with your family or friends is great, but when you can do it in the semi-darkness, as if you were in a disco, even my stubborn teenager wants to come along.

Spare, strike… winner !

At the Knijn bowling alley, which is a genuine Amsterdam institution, there is a disco atmosphere every Friday and Saturday night (there’s even a DJ!) and there are so many lanes that the pins are lit up using ultraviolet light. Your scores don’t usually improve because of this, but while the youngsters have a great time listening to the Top-40, grown-ups can go and enjoy a coffee in one of the two restaurants there (after a good barbecue, perhaps).

Fun bowling: 40 years and counting

Located above a supermarket very close to the RAI exhibition centre, Knijn has recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, for which it underwent major refurbishment. It used this opportunity to renew its facilities so as to encourage the young and not-so-young to come and enjoy this fun sport. But, remembering its roots, it hasn’t forgotten to set aside two evenings for competitions.
Open Monday to Thursday, 10 am to midnight Friday, 10 am to 12.30 am Saturday, midday to 12.30 am Sunday midday to 11 pm. Disco bowling on Fridays, 11 am to 12.30 am and Saturdays, 11.30 pm to 12.30 am.
Price per hour per lane (max. 6 people, shoe hire included): €22 to €29.50 depending on time and day. Disco bowling: €11.50 per person.
Laurence, 46 a cool mum

I’m the mother of two supercharged children. I’ve also been living a great love affair with Holland for the past 20 years! I’ll take you to places in Amsterdam that will make you feel good, where the products and the welcome are high quality and where, most importantly, you’ll never stress out. Ready to go?
