Created in 1979, the purpose of the Contamines-Montjoie Nature Reserve is to maintain the equilibrium between nature and tourism development. Today, it comprises the largest glacial system of all nature reserves in the Haute-Savoie region with the Tré la Tête glacier.

Exceptional flora and fauna

With a maximum altitude of 3892 m, it is the highest nature reserve in France. It is also the only area protected of the Mont Blanc. Its flora and fauna is hugely varied as it boasts all the altitude levels. From prairies to peaks, you can find red deer, roe deer, marmots, ibex and even golden eagles! The reserve is also rich in its geology (granite, schist, limestone, etc.) and is home to over 660 plant species.
Your stay in Albertville is the ideal opportunity to go on a snowshoe hike or do a bit of cross-country skiing in this amazing place of protected biodiversity. Nevertheless, be sure to observe the instructions detailed at the start of the trails so as not to disturb the surrounding fauna.
