A romantic spot

This cemetery in eastern Paris is undoubtedly the most romantic place in Paris. Lovers, tourists and families, all come here in an air of respect and contemplation. The inscriptions on the tombstones and the names of the paths, some two hundred years old, give the impression of travelling through time. Here are buried some of the great people of our time, writers and musicians next to unnamed graves in the largest green space in Paris.

Memories and culture

The trees intertwine and the blackbirds and crows flit about while you amble through the 44-hectare space. Styles mix and you can encounter Gothic tombs as well as those in a Haussmannien style. It's worth spending few minutes in the "romantic" area of the cemetery, a historical monument since 1962. A place of collective memory, a stroll through time surrounded by nature, this is what awaits you at the Père Lachaise cemetery.
