Marolles Neighborhood
This lively neighborhood to the South West of the city is one of the last areas to keep popular Brussels traditions alive. The cheeky expressions rather stereotypical of Belgians are made in brusseleir or marollien dialects still spoken in the neighborhood. Its at the daily morning flea market at Jeu de Balle Place (which takes its name from an old game that consisted of throwing balls) that these tradtions come alive. Here and there, jokes in the popular dialects can be heard back and forth, though few shoppers will understand, it is still a pleasure to witness.
