In a nutshell...
Nation and Bercy
Nation place still displays the two columns that comprised the barrier of its City toll gate. In the middle, the Triomphe de la Republique was built in celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the French revolution. The restoration of the Bercy district has been underway for some time: the Sports palace was inaugurated in 1984 and the Finance Ministry in 1989. The redevelopments have been continuing into present day with the creation of Bercy Village, a new park, the construction of the House of Cinema and the Simone de Beauvoir passage way (uniting the left and right banks). The Bercy of the new millenium is one of urban innovation, alternative shopping and large leisure spaces.
