Amsterdam : Walks

Few hours in Eastern Islands
During work on the Canal Belt, much debris from the site was dumped into the Ij and that is the origin of these artificial islands constructed in this area that used to be mainly for ship yards. Today, these islands on the eastern side of the port district have been transformed into popular residential zones. Whether you walk through KNSM-eiland, Java-eiland or Borneo-eiland, you'll be amazed at the modern architecture such as: the "Barcelona" on the KNSM, imposing habitations, and the the houses that border the Java. Glancing back at the canals of the 17th century and downtown Amsterdam, you'll surely appreciate the modern constructions and tranquility of the neighborhood as much as Amsterdamians. You may enjoy exploring this are by bicycle, but be careful, although two-wheelers may be the preferred mode of transport for people in Amsterdam, it takes a bit of practice to navigate the city.
