Few hours in Châtelet - Les Halles Quarter

The Change Bridge which adjoind Chatelet place used to be called Grand Bridge. Historically, this was the first bridge of Paris to join the Ile de la City and the rest of Paris. The prison that once was contained in an ancient fort built by Philippe August was torn down by Napolean. Although, since the middle of the 19th century, not much has changed at Chatelet Place; the two theaters and the fountain, built in 1860, 1862, and 1858, respectively, are still the hallmarks of this plaza.

Several hundred meters away, the Halles and the Pompidou Center add a bit of modernity to the neighborhood whose streets are still named after people and professions of the middle ages such as Petite Truanderie (Little Troublemaker). This area offers numerous boutiques, galleries and cafes...a neighborhood worth wandering around.
